LOCAL OPTOMETRIST TO OFFER NO-COST EYE ASSESSMENTS FOR INFANTS
June 5th, 2013 Osage Beach, MO– Dr. Erin Gagnon of Eyes on Missouri to provide no-cost eye and vision assessments for babies in the community through a national public health program called InfantSEE®. As InfantSEE® providers, volunteer optometrists provide a one-time, no-cost eye and vision assessments to infants between six to twelve months of age regardless of ability to pay or access to insurance coverage.
InfantSEE® is a public health program designed to ensure that eye and vision care becomes an integral part of infant wellness care to improve a child’s quality of life. The first year of life is a critical time for eye and vision development. One in every 10 children is at risk from undiagnosed eye and vision problems.
“InfantSEE® assessments help to ensure that a baby’s visual system is developing properly,” said Dr. Gagnon. “These assessments also provide an opportunity to educate my patients about the importance of a lifetime of vision care—beginning early in life.”
Many children at risk for eye and vision problems are not being identified at an early age, when many of those problems might be prevented or more easily corrected. Early detection of eye conditions is the best way to ensure healthy vision.
InfantSEE® is a program of Optometry’s Charity™ – The AOA Foundation and was developed in conjunction with The Vision Care Institute™ LLC, a Johnson & Johnson company. Since the program’s launch in 2005, more than 7,500 AOA-member optometrists have volunteered as InfantSEE® providers across the U.S.
